Fontanges
We adore ribbons. Who doesn’t? We also love long decorative statement earrings but that are as light as a feather - just like ribbons! Fontanges is a pretty medieval village in the Cantal region of France. While the village itself is famous for its architecture and chapel of Saint Michel, the name Fontanges is historically noted for something quite different: ribbons!
Legend has it that Mary Angelique of Fontanges who was one of The Sun King’s mistresses was once out riding with the King when her long hair fell out of her cap. Causing quite a stir, she bound her hair up with a ribbon from her dress delighting the Sun King with her carefree, improvised and pretty style. Our Fontanges earrings have been made to evoke just that feeling- a carefree, pretty but very lightweight style that you won’t want to be without.
